Recipe : Mutton Curry

Mutton Curry Recipe

Curry means sauce in Tamil. The combination of spices with either yogurt or coconut milk depending on the regions in India is a curry, either dry or wet. Curries turned into a trend during the British times and are made out of mutton, chicken, fish, prawns, eggs and vegetables.

Ingredients:

  • 500 gms mutton, cubed
  • 5 onions, chopped
  • 1 tbsp – garlic – ginger paste mixed in 1 cup of water
  • 1.5 tsp – chilli powder
  • 1 tsp – green chilli paste
  • ½ cup – tomato puree
  • 1 tbsp – coriander powder
  • ½ tsp – turmeric powder
  • 2 cups – yoghurt
  • 8 black peppercorns
  • 8 cloves
  • 1 tsp – cumin seeds
  • 1 cup – coriander leaves , chopped
  • ½ cup oil
  • Salt to taste

Cooking Mutton Curry:

  • Flatten meat cubes into flat pieces
  • Mix with yoghurt , salt, chilli , turmeric and coriander powder
  • Arrange half the onions in a pressure cooker at the bottom
  • Arrange the meat pieces with yoghurt mixture on top of the onions
  • Sprinkle ginger garlic water , the rest of the onions then the whole spices
  • Add 2 cups of hot water
  • Pressure cook till done
  • Remove and cook till gravy is thick and then add tomato puree along with the oil
  • Till oil separates let it blend
  • Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot.
